What was it like to have a baby in 1936? How about 1962? Having a baby is a significant event in a woman’s life, but stories of those events are rarely included in the historical record. This presentation includes interviews with women who had babies in those eras, and sheds some light on the history of birth in Duluth. Learn how it moved from homes and midwives to hospitals and male doctors, and now sometimes back again.  This presentation will also share excerpts of “Mothers of a Silent Generation” (working title), a theatrical presentation based on the oral history interviews with these women and discussion of merging history and theatre.
